Female Boxer spayed

My son and I own a beloved Boxer female, (Tequila) about 4 years old.  Last year she had 9 puppies, 5 lived.  We would now like to have her spayed.  Is this ok?  Is she too old?  Will it be very painful for her?

Hi Rosemary,

Your son's dog is not too old to be spayed!

There is pain associated with all surgery, be sure your vet sends you home with pain medication.  Many dogs do not show obvious signs of pain, so don't wait to see if your dog "looks" like she's in pain, before giving her the medication.  You will be surprised how quickly your dog bounces back from this surgery! In a week or less, she will be very much her old self... only much better! No more heat cycles for Tequila (or you!).
