9 month old german shepherd ear problem

Question
I have a 9 month old german shepherd who's ear only stands up some times and it has a dent in it when it does. I have heard that if a gs ear is not up by 7/8 month it probably will never stand. Put i have also heard that it can take up to a year for the ears to stand. I also heard that taping can help. I guess my question is should i try taping her ears or should i just leave them. Will taping help even though she is 9 months alread? I also heard that giving her a calsium supplement could help build the cartalige up in her ears. I s this true? What should i do?

Answer
The longer it takes any (normally) standing ear to go up, the less likely it is that it will stand at all. I like to have my schnauzers taped or glued through teething, as that is when ears have the most problems. I have heard about calcium, and I have also heard, and used, vitamin C as that helps with teething, and then eases the effects of the teething on the ears (so they say anyway).

Here is one site that says that shepherd ears can take up to a year to stand; this site has good info on how to work with the ears:

Here is another one who uses tape: http://leerburg.com/tapingears.htm

I do know that some put moleskin on the inside of the ears to help hold them erect. http://shepherdkennels.com/braces.html

Here is the bonanza of ear taping/gluing websites! http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/health/eartaping.htm

Good luck with those ears!
