what to do about a dog that will not walk on some floors

we are thinking about adopting a mix breed dog that was taken from a home that had 4 other dogs and 2 children. The dog is perfect for our family but he has a few crazy habits. 1. he doesn't like to walk across the surface of some floors like ceramic or hardwood floors-he likes carpets? 2. he will not walk up or down stairs. I feel so bad for him because he truly is scared and all our family wants to do is love him and get him through this with out causing him any stress. The past 3 months have been hard for him. thank you for your help!!!!!!!!

Well what you can do for both is to try and coax him with bits of hot dogs-as dogs tend to go crazy over hot dogs and will do anything to get them

And it may just take time to get used to everything I have a dog that would not walk on hard floors either but it time she did

And sometimes,once they are adjusted you just have to put a leash on them and just make them face there fears,and once he does it praise him and give him lots of treats and he will learn it's not scary anymore
