My JRT mix is burying her treats

Question
I have a puppy that was a give-away (She's 11 wks).  When I got her she was quiet, almost acquiescent, but still very loving.  I was told she was a dachshund/lab mix.
Now that she has been in my house for a few days, and I have finally gotten rid of all of the fleas, she has perked up.  That is how I have become convinced that there is Jack Russel in there. (My brother had two, and her energy level, build, and coloring are almost identical.)  And I wouldn't trade her for anything. ;)
Anyway, now that you have some background, here is my question.
When we are out in the backyard, there are two objective.  Getting her used to using the backyard as a potty (lots of praise, pets, and training treats when she does her "duty") and to wear off some of her energy.  I use soft training treats for the potty training, and the occasional Milk-bone puppy biscuit for her bringing things back and just to encourage the play.
What I have noticed over the last day or two that when we are outside and she is taking a rest, she has a biscuit.  I couldn't figure out where she was getting them.  I figured she had just left one outside without eating it and found it.  Then I saw what she was doing.
When I would give her a biscuit, she takes it then runs around the yard for a moment then starts nosing the grass.  I watched her drop the biscuit into the depression she made with her nose and then use her nose again to "bury" it with more grass.
Is this normal behavior?  Should I be concerned about her starting to dig?  She hasn't starting the digging yet.
Sorry this is so long, but I find this behavior intriguing and have never witnessed it in any of the dogs I had growing up.
Do you have any ideas?  Anything would be great.

Answer
I also have a JRT mix. In fact, he is a JRT/Beagle mix, and he also has this habit. However, it's nothing to be concerned about.

Most dogs bury their bones, or whatever they feel is important, to them to protect it from anyone else who might want it. It's an instinct derived from their wolf ancestors. When they want it again, they'll uncover their prize. Rarely do they bury their treats in the same hole.

So don't worry about your pup burying her treats. It's perfectly normal, and as long as she doesn't start digging up the yard for no reason, it's safe and natural for her to keep doing this.

Hope this helps!
