Scooting

Question
We have a 8 year old female English Spaniel. She tends to be a very nervous dog. But of late, we have noticed she is scooting frequently even the same day AFTER she has been groomed and bathed - where they inform us expressing glans is part of their routine. My husband took her back to the groomer and they supposed to have checked her glans again, but she continues to scoot. This is becoming a real trial to us because we have very light carpeting and when she scoots, she certainly leaves her mark! Any suggestion would be very welcome. Thank you. Esther.

Answer
Hi Esther,

I can appreciate your problem, especially because your light colored carpets are taking a beating!

Since your dog has already had her anal glands expressed but she continues to scoot, there is a chance that the glands have become impacted.

If you see your dog scooting at least once a day, or if dog has been scooting for two days or more, then a trip to the your veterinarian is in order to get to the "bottom" of the problem.

Best of luck,
Patti
