QuestionI have an opportunity to buy a female silky. I breed Yorkies and was wondering if a silky and yorkie mix makes a good adult dog. The silky needs a home she was bought by someone who didn't do there research on the demands of a terrier puppy and she wants to get rid of her. Let me know what you think about breeding my 5 pound yorkie to the silky. thanks
AnswerHi Lorri,
I personally don't believe in mixing the breeds up, as it takes away from both breeds by doing that. Having said that, I have to tell you that I just adore my little yorkie-silky mix. She is a little doll and I wouldn't take anything for her. The problem about doing this though, is that they tend to be bigger than a yorkie should be, and smaller than a silky. I like the coat on mine as it's more of a silky coat, not too long or unmanageable. But by mixing the breeds, you never really know what you're going to come out with. These are two unique breeds, and I just don't think it's a good idea to mix them. I love my little "Kipper", but I would never intentionally breed the two. That, of course, is my opinion. The woman I got her from did it all the time. I guess the reason I don't like it, is that we have the different dog breeds for a reason. As cute as they are, I just hate the thought of ruining either breed by mixing them. I admit, the reason I bought her is because I could not afford a registered pure bred Yorkie. I have never regretted it because she is my little sweetheart. It's a tough decision, but please think about it before you do it.
God Bless,
Becky
