Two dogs

Question
We have decided to purchase a miniature schauzer for our family.  My husband wants to purchase 2.  Is this a good idea?

Answer
There is nothing more wonderful than having two schnauzers! BUT.... never buy two from the same litter or bring in two at the same time as they will bond too closely to each other and will be much harder to housebreak and otherwise train. Get one, train it into the dog of your dreams, and then a year or so later bring in the second one. Life will pretty much be a piece of cake as the first one (assuming that you trained it into a wonderful dog) will help to train the second one.

Make sure that one is more dominant and the other more submissive to avoid problems when they mature. The best mix is generally male/female, as long as the bitch is spayed. Two of the same sex will also work as long as one remembers the dominance thing.

Be sure to work on the barking thing ("QUIET!") as soon as the puppy comes into the house because multiple dogs will be noisier.
