Castrated Male Dog & Female in Heat

Hi: I have 2 dogs.  I had the male castrated last summer, and my female did not come into heat until 1 month ago.  The male mounted and tied with the female.  The female is now sporting an extended abdomen with no waistline, and acts as if she is pregnant. (Territorial, nesting, etc).  Is this a "false" pregnancy?  If it is a false pregnancy, how do I treat the female?

Thanks for the question. This is sort of out of my expertise- but- here goes- if the female is "sporting an extended abdomen with no waistline", I'm assuming this means she is gaining weight. If that is the case, no I don't think it's a false pregnancy - it sounds like a real one! (smile) Are you sure she didn't get access to another intact male?

Have your vet check her out.
