House training--Yorkie

Question
I have a 13 week old female yorkie.  I also have a 9 year old female American Eskimo that stays outside.

I'm trying to house train the Yorkie and the problem is when I take her outside to potty, she gets busy playing with the other dog she forgets why she's out there!  She generally pee's when she's outside but no matter how long I stay outside with her she almost always comes back in the house and poops! Any suggestions?

Also, I do have pee pads in the house and she is really good about using them, but my goal is to have her potty outside.  I almost feel like I'm trained to watch for her "sniffing" as a signal to take her out...is there something I can teach her to do to tell me she needs to go out?

And, should I take up the pee pads when I am at home with her?

I would appreciate any suggestions you can make.

Answer
Dear Pam
I can suggest stop using pee pads. They, as you are finding, are actually causing a problem.

start using a crate one small enough for the dog to stand up and turn around. The reason dog do not like to mess the area they lay in. Your Yorkie will learn that it a secure place.

Introduce her to the crate slowly and you may be able to take her with you and let her out frequently.

You can start training her using Psychological Methods
