introducing a new puppy to house and we already have a dog

Question
we have recently purchased a new labrador puppy AND we have brought it home to meet our half x staffy dog we already have(who is two yrs old). we are a little scared to let the dogs too near each other at moment as our older dog is so full of energy and i think he frightens the new puppy, because he is so full of energy and really boysterous when he plays, {we really go for it when we play with him}, and we are not sure how to go about making him calm and her more confident with him. when he goes near her she barks which sets him off barking and it esculates. we seperate them, but every time we try to reintroduce them it happens. we dont think he is trying to harm her in any way as every dog he has ever met he does the same thing to try play. we have even had my sisters dog to stay in our house before for two weeks and after he got his initial playing over with, they got on really well. could you please offer some advice.

Answer
What I would do is keep him on leash and let her approach him.  Do you best to keep him quiet and still.  If he plays well with other young dogs, it should be OK after they get used to one another.  Keep a close eye on things and be quick to jump in if he gets too rough with her.  We do this a lot without problems, although most often with maybe a mostly grown 7 month old.  It may look bad, but as long as she isn't trying to get away and keeps coming back for more, it is OK.

Let her get a lot bigger before leaving the 2 of them alone together.
