Babe

Question
My 14yr old female dog Babe has been clawing at my carpet in many areas.  She acts like she's nesting, then she'll simply lay down and sleep.  She's very alert and peppy otherwise.  This happens day and night but not constantly, maybe 2 or 3 times a day.  She is deaf and also has cateracts in both eyes but still is able to see pretty well.  
Any suggestions?

It may be now that she is older that her joints are a little sore,so she is trying to make it softer and more comfortable

This does to be a fairly common thing in dogs-and not just older dogs either,they usually do it as an instinct like some dogs go in circles before laying down
