gestation for dogs

I know that the normal gestation period for dogs is about 56 days, but what happens if they go beyond that date? My mini dacshund is working on 61 days now and I was wondering when I should start to get worried and what I should do? Thanks for your help. Patti

Hi Patti,

According to the information I have, a dog's average gestation period is 58-64 days, or 9 weeks.

It sounds as though your dog's pregnancy is within the "normal" time span, but if you have questions or concerns you should speak to your vet, since he/she is the real expert.
