my basset hound bit my mother

Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old male neutered basset.  He's a sweet dog, but when he is around food or has a bone he becomes very agressive to the point where he bit my mother resulting in her having to get stitches on two of the wounds he gave her.  I have two kids, and I'm very nervous to have him around them.  He has shown agression before (growling at us when he has food or a bone) but hasn't bitten like this before.

Answer
Hello you need to hire a trainer to show you how to take care of that problem. Dogs that are possessive can be taught not to be, but i would not recommend it without a professional. Ask the trainer specifically if they know how to handle possessive tendancies...good luck
