Question
QUESTION: hello,

I would like your advice in the remote dog collar?
I have a german shephered puppy 4 months old and she is out of controle, biting, jumping barking etc...

one of the petsmart worker suggest me to purchase the remote collar, but is it safe? will it hurt my dog?

Please advice me

ANSWER: Hi Ghali;
Stick your finger in a lght socket, or grab hold of a hot wire, and that is what it feels like to your dog, only on it's neck.
I wouldn't use one of the things for anything in the world.
It won't KILL your dog, unless maybe water or something can accelerate the voltage too much, but that shock hurts like hell.
I don't think it is at all useful, don't know any responsible trainers that would use one, and think they should not even be available for sae.
They are cruel.
German shepherda are one of the easiest breeds to train
If you have established a good relationship with your dog, not hit nor yelled at excessively, but have taught her right, a standard obedience course would turn her into a well behaved young lady.
She is not out of control. She is acting exactly like a German Shepherd puppy hat has been allowed to do these things.
when she jumps and bites, she is playing the way puppies play.
When they come to live with humans, they have to learn to play like human children.
when she bites, hold her with your hands in front of her chest. You don't want to be rough, just sort of hold her back from biting you, and in a position so you can talk to her.
If you can't get her to sit still.
Hold her by the scruff of the neck.
One critic sounded off at my saying that, saying you don't have to be cruel etc, etc.
You are cruel if you grab the neck roughly and hold it tight enough to cause pain.
Just a gently hold on it will allow you to turn her head so you can talk to her.
Puppies, like human children, when they don't want to mind, will turn away and ignore you.
A small puppy, you can sometimes just pick them up with your hand supporting their mid section so they are comfortable, and hole them at eye level and talk to them.
Sometimes, you can take them on your lap, and they will look up and listen.
Thell her "NO!!! Don't bite!!!   Be a good puppy ( baby or whatever you call her) then play, giving her a chance to mind you. Repeat this each time she bites for three or four times, then tell her, "NO!!! IOf you are going to bite, we won't play" and stop playing with her.
She wants to play. when she sees what makes you stop playing with her, she will stop doing that.
When she plays and just mouths your hanmd or otherwise doesn't nip and bite, be sure you praise and show attention to her, telling her in a very pleased voice, how proud you are of her, what a big girl, good girl, etc.
Make a big deal of it.
If she gets excited and bites, say a quick and sharp NO!!.
Ask at Petsmart and Petco about how young they take puppies in the obedience classes. sopme trainers have puppy school, some don't.
Man's Best Friend has puppy school.
Gentle but firm training is what works best, just like it does with human children.
Try the suggestion I gave you for a few days, and if there is no imp[rovement in her behavior write me again.
You have to establish yourself as the alpha ( parent, boss, etc).
Dogs are pack animals like people are, and don't do well living in solitude. They need the family structure.
A mom and dad ( alpha malea and female) and big brothers and sisters, or grandparents, aunts and uncles etc, that are in charge when mom and dad are not at home. These are the beta male and female.
My husband is NOT a strict discliplinarian, so I have to be the alpha. He is just our dogs' buddy. I use time out for a punishment when the stern voice won't do it.
Time out is justy for major things, like snapping at the other dogs etc.
Lots of praise when they do what you want them to, and a sharp, firm voice saying nmo, that is not allowed when they misbehave.
Think of yourself as her father. I have raised 4 children and 3 granbdchildrn, and tons of animals, and raising animals to be family pets and raising children is not that different.
Like human children, they need to be taught what behvior is acceptable and what is not.
Firmness, and being consistent is the best way.
If they play like they are supposed to, they get played with a lot. If they are not going to play nicely, correct them and stop the playing.
She is not being stubborn. She doesn't understand your language. You have to say and SHOW her what you want her to do. When she gets a lt of praise for doing something, she knows that is what you want. When she gets scolded, she knows that is what you DON'T want her to do.
She wants to please you and have everything go nicely.

QUESTION: she is already in puppy classes training at petsmart and the trainer sucks, to me he looks confuses whenver you ask him a question.

Answer
Well, I think I would see whoever can give a refund and talk to them about this, and ask for a refund because you are there to be taught how to handle your puppy. If the trainer can't answer your questions, then you are NOT getting what you are paying for.
Is THAT the person who suggested the shock collar?
If it is, he sould NOT be doing the training. Any esponsible trainer that know ANYTHING should know those things should not be used!!!!
Do you have a Petco or Man's Best Friend in yopur area?
Talk to the trainer where you try next BEFORE you pay for and sign up for classes.
Ask your Veterinarian if he/she can suggest a training facility.

PS;
Just found the Dog Whisperer's websitw with some videos you can watch.
You can see how he goes about correcting some bad behaviors, and they may give you what you need to teach your little guy.
Or you might want to sign up for the tips.
I didn't read if there is a charge for getting the tips in your email or now. You can check it out in there.
Just browse the site. I watched a couple of the videos, and there is one called " In the womb" It shows a puppy forming in the womb. VERY interesting, but a little short
