Question
I have a 3 yr old Peck-a-poo,she is white, but now she is starting to turn a copper, redish color.  what can I do to turn her back white or will she turn all copper.  I do not find any Gray hair on her.

Answer
Hi Sue,

A dog's coat color can darken with age, but you didn't say where your dog's body the color is changing.

If particular parts of your dog seem to be changing to a rust color, this can mean she is licking herself on that area a lot. The rust colored staining is from saliva, and you may be seeing the color change on her chin too, from all the licking she's doing.

A dog that licks itself a lot should be examined by a veterinarian to rule out a problem, such an allergy.

Best of luck,

Patti
