Chocolate Lab with blister like sore

Question
QUESTION: My now 8 month old Chocolate Lab had surgery to be spayed on November 9-2007 and the incision cleared up perfectly fine. Then December 23-2007 she had what looked like a blister type sore in the area of the incision. I cleaned it up and it cleared up a week later. I had assumed it was possibly an ingrown hair-- due to shaving her prior to surgery. But now its back again. Also below the skin there is a huge lump, again I assumed it was scar tissue from the surgery-- not sure if that is related to the sore. She has no other symptoms and is her usual happy playful self. When the blister looking sore ruptured the fluid that drained from it was pink in color a milky bloody color. Could it be infected or an abscess? I had been cleaning with putting hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol.Should I go to the vet? Thank you...

ANSWER: Definitely sounds like an abcess or an under the skin infection. Take her to the vet and get it taken care of. They will most likely have to reopen the incision in that area, drain it, keep it packed until it heals from the inside out.
good luck

QUESTION: Just wanted to thank you and let you know I brought her to the vet this afternoon-- the Dr said it was an infection and could possibly be a reaction to the sutures under the skin. They put her on Simplicef 200mg we also have to put warm compresses on the site 2-3 times a day for 7 days. If the infection doesn't go away they will have to do surgery and open her up to take the sutures out:[  Thanks again-- Vicki

Answer
I'm so glad you got her to the vet early enough and I am so hoping she doesn't need to be reopened.
I'm sure the antibiotics will help. Also put her on fifteen hundred mgs of vitamin C a day. Give her three doses per day, five hundred each. This will boost her immune system and help her to heal.
blessings,
