Question
I have a 6 month old black lab.  I am feeding him Purina puppy for large breed.  I have consulted my vet but they find no medical reason why his skin is so very dry.  When I pet him you can see the dander.  I have read where I can give him a supplement as Fish Oil.  What do you recommend?

Answer
My first suggestion is throw away the dog food and feed him the bag LOL. It would be better for him. Purina is horrible though heavily advertised and has most consumers duped into thinking it is good dog food. Change your food! Go to
http://www.doberdogs.com/ to read and learn about the different ingredients in dog foods. Find something NOT in a grocery store or wally world. Go to a pets store or purchase online. Dont' buy any food with corn (dogs can't digest it), soy , wheat,(allergens) BHA or BHT (carcinogens cause cancer). Find something that has meat as a first ingredient or meat meal. NO byproducts. Give your dog omega three fish oil daily even if it's in your new food, plus vitamin c and vitamin b supplements. Most coat and skin problems ARE related to your dogs food, a lack of vitamins and poor nutrition.Your dog food should contain marine lipids, borage oil, lecithin and essential fatty acids, which are commonly destroyed by heat in the manufacture and storage of many pet foods. These nutrients cannot be produced by the body. Therefore, they should be added to the diet to boost the immune system, fight against allergic reactions, and help control dandruff, dry hair coats and excessive shedding. Vitamins A and E also are important for healing. Look for a supplement that provides ALL of these plus give the C and B vitamins separately as well as the Omegas. Pet Alive is a skin tonic that I hear a lot about but there are all different brands, prices etc.
Good luck and throw that Purina AWAY
