Question
We have a German Shorthair Pointer who is 17 mos old.  He is a rescue and we have had him 5 mos.  Yesterday we were warned at our private dog park we take him to because he put his mouth around the person doing the poop cleanup. He did not hurt her, did not leave marks through her jacket nor drew blood, but we need help in addressing this.  After 2 warnings, he will be asked not to return.  Toby loves playing with the other dogs and I would be disappointed if we can not take him there.  It is close to home and a very clean place.  Is this something he does because in his litter he did not get "trained?"  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Juanita,

If your dog hasn't ever showed aggression towards people before this incident, you may never know why he went after the park employee. If you have your dog since he was 5 month old, and he's only known love and kindness since then, this attack probably doesn't have to do with how your dog was socialized prior to you adopting him.

For the safety of others, have your dog wear a basket style muzzle when you take him to the dog park. This will guarantee nobody will get hurt. A basket style muzzle is a very humane. Your dog can pant, and even drink water while he's wearing one.

Enrolling in an obedience class is a good idea. You will learn how to control your dog, and he will learn how to obey.

Best of luck,
Patti
