Puppy stool

Question
Hello,
My name is Ashley, i have a seven week old puppy and  i am  new at this whole puppy thing... i have had my little girl for only about a week now, and the three days ago she had her first round of shots, and a dewormer.
for two days she pooped out what looked like semi long white worms.. and  it freaked me out.. but i read online that it was normal.. now she is pooping A LOT!
it is usually very mushy stool.. or watery.. which scares me.. because  i know that wet stool is a bad thing. but  i was told that puppies generally do poop a lot.. but she didnt poop this much at first.
so i am wondering is this a side effect of the dewormer? or maybe the shots? or is this just what puppies do? she is not lethargic, and she eats three times a day, four if she is asking to eat.
thank you,
 Ashley

Answer

Hi Ashley,

I hope your puppy's loose stool has cleared up by now. If not, you should contact your veterinarian.  The loose stool could have been a side effect from the dewormer, but it should have cleared up by now.

Your puppy will need to be dewormed again, in about two weeks after the first worming because new "worms" will have hatched.

While it's true that puppies eat more often than an adult dog, and so it eliminates more often, the stool should not be soft looking. Puppies under six months of age should be fed three times daily; after 6 months they may be fed twice daily. Don't get your puppy used to begging for between meal snacks, as this will soon become a life-long habit!  Feed the amount recommended on the feeding guidelines on the package for your puppy's age. Keep your puppy on a puppy food diet for the first full year, to ensure she gets the nutrition she needs.

Best of luck!
