Question
We had a thanksgiving guest show up with their 3 dogs yesterday.  They explained that they are feeling extra "attached" because less than 2 weeks ago they lost a dog to parvo. OMG! One of the dogs they brought wasn't vaccinated until after they lost the other- this dog was not showing any symptoms and was very playful appearing healthy.  We have 2 dogs and one of them isnt vaccinated. What should we do? Its the weekend and we can't contact our local vet.

Answer
Oh no. Contacting your vet is essential. Your dogs all need parvo boosters, preferably straight parvo and not five ways.  Parvo can live on the ground for seven years, on shoes, clothing, car tires. Bleach everything you can bleach and if possible throw away what can't be bleached. Get your dogs vaccinated asap. The other dogs,. vaccinated or not could easily be carrying. Parvo doesn't always show up within two weeks. Also vaccinated dogs are now getting parvo as well, so please watch carefully for symptoms and don't hesitate to get to a vet on an EMERGENCY basis if you see symptoms.
