i have a 4 year old German shepherd male..the last two years he has been outside...just here recently he was on the porch sitting infront of the door and my family (myself ,husband and 3 kids ) walked onto the porch and he got up and we stated to walk in and he tryed to go in too but i held him by his collar and he let out a little growl...i really didnt know what to do so i told him in a firm voice NO you dont do that..he has had obedience training when he was 6 month til know i still refresh him alot...im not scared of him but my husband feels different ..what can i do to make this stop??

Why has he been an outside dog for the last two years?

He warned you, he did not bite and I think that is a very good thing.

It may be a good time to start teaching him to sit when people go in the house. Grabbing his collar very natural but it is also the number two way people get bitten, number one is in doorways, so it all makes sense to me!

You may want to have someone knowledgeable in aggression come out and work with you in your home Try www.ccpdt.com

If it is brand new behavior he may not be feeling well and just wanted the family for comfort. If that is the case a vet check is in order.
