Question
I have a 8 month pit hes a really good nice sociable dog.  The only thing wrong is that he chews up the carpet and not all over the room but only in one place.  We tried spraying the area with some bitter spray but that didnt work.  I tried spankin him but that didnt work either.  my girls mom is saying we should neuter him but i the vet told me to wait till hes a yeard old so his bones can develop well.  please tell me what i can do to have him stop this behavior.  thank you.

Answer
Hi Rafael;
Where did you find that VET????
My VEt, the best there is, says neuter at 4 to 6 months.
It is much better to neuter and spay before the come to sexual mturity, to avoid breast cancer and Prostate cancer.
Besides, at one year, their bones are not fully developed, anyway.
Here in the US, ANY Veterinarian that knows beans about what he is doing spays and neuters as young as 4 months.
I doubt neutering him will do anything for the chewing though. That is not something I have ever heard of an animal doing that was changed by spaying or neutering.
DON'T SPANK!!!!!
It doesn't teach them a thing.
Bitter apple and those other sprays don't do a thing.
There is something on the carpet that he tastes or smells, if he is only chewing in one spot.
First, at that age, he may be cutting his permanent teeth and if so, he needs to gnaw to ease the painful gums and help push the new teeth through.
Give him a Kong Toy or NylaBones toy.
They are hard enough to be safe. The dog can't bite off chunks that can choke them, but it offers the gnawing they need.
et some Simple Solution and shampoo the carpet in that area with it.
The smel may be doen in the pad underneath the carpet, so you have to scrub deep enough to get to the source of what he is smelling.
It could be he just started chewing there, and goes back to it because he smells his own scent on it.
If none of that works, place something he can't move over that spot, and see if he tries to chew another spot.
That will tell you if he just wants to chew the carpet, or if he is smelling something under there.
