Question
I have a rough haired jack Russell he is about 4 not sure as he is a rescue. when near other dogs he crouches and stalks low as they get nearer he barks and is sometimes quite aggressive what can I do?

Answer
Sue,   If he is getting into a stalk, it is too late.  Don't let it get to that point, say "NO!" turn and go in the other direction for about six steps then turn around again.  Watch his thoughts.  Sound funny?  It is not; read your dog's thoughts through his body language, his ears, his eyes, the tension in his body.  Your dog shows more than most because he starts to crouch.  Don't let it get to that point.  You may have to turn fifty times until he gets it, but hang in there, he will finally get it and get board with going no where.  Jacks are smart, he will get it.  Also, start becoming his master.  He needs it, he sounds fearful and needs a strong leader so he can relax more and enjoy life.   Of course until you get to that leader point, YOU won't be enjoying life because it is hard work!  Make sure you go out the door first by making him sit and stay, then come.  Make sure he is in a down before you feed him.  He must always sit before a treat, maybe even down for that too.

Good luck and good for you for caring enough to want to help your dog.
