Question
My wife and I started cooking for our dog to help with his asthma. My question is, are spices good for him? I made some rice with chicken, diced pumpkin, chopped carrots, pepper past and salt, can the dog eat it?

Answer
Since asthma is often caused by a weakened immune system, allergies, or weight issues, I would not put spices in your dog's food. Keep the ingredients as simple as possible, and give him a good vitamin/mineral supplement. A dog's taste, unlike ours, is not all that discriminating; they do eat dead things and various animal droppings with relish, after all!

If he is overweight, getting the excess weight off of him might also help. I am assuming that your vet has eliminated more serious problems as the cause for your dog's allergies.
