Mucous in feces

Question
I have a (almost) 2 year old beagle-bassett hound-pitbull female. We moved in the last few months, and since then she has been vomiting about once every 2 weeks. We attributed it to the changes, such as decreased activity level, staying inside more because of the snow, and excitement over new animals (deer!). Today I took her out to use the bathroom, and she had greenish-yellow mucous in her stool. I went through it with a stick, and it was extemely sticky and thick, not easily pulled apart. Any ideas what could cause this? She eats Science Diet, and is current on all vaccines as well as monthly sentinel. Yesterday I was fixing a door that wouldn't close, and some paint chips fell on the floor. That is the only thing I know of that she has gotten into that she shouldn't. Other than the mucous she is acting completely normal. Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Emily-

A little green mucus can be normal, a bit of anal sac secretions, a little bit of an upset stomach thanks to the move, maybe she found something that you missed in the new house and just HAD to taste it!

But with the vomiting, if she were my dog I would take her and a fresh stool sample to the vet to check for parasites or colitis. It couldn't hurt, and this way if she is way too excited about the deer and have been sampling their "leavings" you can make sure she hasn't picked up anything nasty.

Also, you may want to look into a different diet (IMHO) dry, thick stools is common with science diet as the food is almost entirely starch, grains and gluten.... try visiting www.dogfoodanalaysis.com for a more indepth study of dog foods. I would recomend any of the foods from the 6 star catagory.

Good luck!
