Question
My 1yr old rat terrier has high protien levels in his blood( 35 was his protien level on his last blood test). The vet said that he probably has a kidney condition that he was born with. The dog vomits all the time. Somedays he doesn't and other days up to five times. He is currently on Epakitin and science diet k/d. We have also tried a black raddish remedy.  Is there anything that can be done about the vomiting? He acts like he has acid reflex, but this could just be because of the vomiting. He acts and looks healthy otherwise. Please help. Is there anything that can be done?

Answer
Hi Megan,

Thank you for writing to me about your sweet rat terrier puppy.  Poor baby..to be going through so much in his short life.  My heart breaks for him.

My suggestion is to find a more natural food alternative.  Science diet has all kinds of nasty ingredients in it.  What you want to do is to find a real food diet that can do the same thing as the k/d part.  One of the best nutritional vets in the country, Dr. Kreusi, will do phone consultations with you.  He is located in Vermont but will work with your vet and you to get your dog's condition stabilized naturally.  (www.crvetcenter.com).

In the meantime, there is a product called Prozyme that can be ordered from J&B Wholesale Pet Supplies on line.  This will help your dog digest and assimilate his food better.

For the vomiting you can try a homeopathic remedy of which there are several for upset tummy and vomiting.  Nux Vomica is one that you can start out with.

I would also get a second opinion from a kidney specialist..perhaps a teaching vet school nearest to your home.

I know that Dr. Kruesi can help your dog.  He helped mine and countless others that I have sent to him.  Please tell them that Shelley Davis, mother of Flurry sent you.  Dr. Kruesi has been treating my dog for over a year and her tests are coming back looking so much better than last year.

I would also recommend that the only vaccination you give him from now on be a 3 year rabies.  This is all he will need because vaccinations tax the immune system.

I truly wish you great success with getting to the bottom of this condition and being able to stabilize it.

Best Regards,
Shelley Davis
