Question
Hi Kristen,
I am from India and wanted to ask you  question. I have a Pomeranian and what has happened is that she has a wound near her anal, a small hole near anal. She was treated by our vet but the hole still Prevails. Our Vet told me to press and clean the wound daily so that it heals faster and and all the germs get out. But the Problem is my pet doesn't co-operate at all she has bitten me twice. She was given injections on 13th May 2010 of Antibiotics. and the Doctor has also given some oral tablets. Can she get better only by giving antibiotics cause the blood has stopped coming out from that area. My dog is 10 years old and quite healthy.

Please do advise

Answer

Hi Vikram,

Very few dogs would cooperate and allow you to clean their anal area without fussing to some degree. It sounds as though you just need somebody to help you, by holding your dog still while you clean the wound area as your vet directed.

If you are still unable to clean your dog's wound, even with the help of another person you should contact your vet's office and let them know what the wound currently looks like, and ask whether it's still necessary to press and clean the wound. Your vet know's your dogs condition far better than anyone on the Internet.

Best of luck,

Patti
