My Fat Dog

Question
Hello. We own a dog who is 14 years old and every day at 6:30 my mum takes her round to see a neighbour who she cares for and our dog seems to know when it is time to go out, because she always starts top squeak and howl about half an hour before "auntie Lilian time" and I was wondering how she knows this, I mean I know that dogs aren't stupid, but it kind of fascinates me how she knows.

Also, my dog is about 7 stone in weight. We have tried her on every thinkable diet, but all she seems to do is put on more and every time we cut her food down she squeaked and howled so much it sounded like she was in pain. Could you offer a suggestion. Is there a kind of doggie-lyposuction available?

Thanks for your time

Answer
Hi, Dogs are pattern animals, so if you have a routine, they tend to pickup on them real fast especially if it something they really enjoy (like going out).  You might take her in to the vet and have her thryoid check. Sometimes if their thyroid is not working right, they will have a weight problem.  Other things can cause the thyroid to not work right too, so getting her checked out by a vet could give you some answers.  Hope this helps.
