Question
I rescued this puppy from an animal shelter. He was only 8 weeks old when I got him. I had the same kinda of dog before. But I was wanting to know both, my last dog and this dog have one very same thing about their tongue they have black specks on them. Kinda like a cow chow. What could it be? Is it fom the lab side or the shepard side? And why?

Answer
Hi Melissa,

Most dogs have tongues that are all pink. Shar-peis and Chow Chows have blue-black tongue's as you've noted, but it's not uncommon for mixed breed dogs to sometimes have tongues with black spots or speckles.

Your puppy's tongue speckles, and the tongue color of your last dog just mean they're both mixed breeds. Mixed breeds exhibit a wide array of characteristics because of their diverse backgrounds.

I hope that helps.
