Maltese-Tzu

Question
My dog poops under the dining table.  I've had two other dogs who did the
same thing.  I have removed all rugs, etc.  Why do they do this?

It could be that there are still odors remaining on the floor that are detectable only to a dog's nose.

Or it could be that the dog(s) like the feeling of protection that the table over them gives.

Or it might be neither of these;
