Question
I have a female Siberian Husky who just had pups a week ago.  The pups look like their getting enough to eat, their belly's are nicely rounded but they just started crying alot and don't seem to nurse for more then a minute or two. this just started today.  Should I be worried that there not getting enough nourishment.

Answer
Hi Lorretta,

Is it that the puppy's don't nurse for long enough, or is the mother rejecting her puppies?

First, check to see that the mother dog has enough milk.
Gently squeeze one of the nipples, if milk runs out, then she has milk.

If the puppies seem content and not cranky all the time, they are probably getting enough milk.  If they cry a lot, then be suspicious.

You can always supplement if you have trouble.  Playtex nursers, (premie size) are good bottles to use. Here are instructions for how to bottle feed puppies:

Your vet is the real expert here. If I were you, that's who I would turn to if there continues to be a problem with the pups.

Best of luck,
