Peeing and Pooping inside

Question
Hello my name is Lilly and I'm asking for your help on behalf of Buddy (my neighbor's dog who's about to go back to the pound if i can't figure something out). Nancy my neighbor got a 3yr old dog named Buddy from the pound 5-6 months ago. Her 15yr old son was with her when she met Buddy and Buddy was friendly towards everyone. Now he growls and runs away from everyone but nancy. When she got him he had an accident or two in the house no big deal but now he's gotten to the point where he pees (mostly) and poops everywhere in the house, couch and bed . Whether they're home or not, even right in front of her and after she just took him for a walk where he already peed. She says she catches him peeing and spanks and yells no at him but all that does is make him run away as he's still peeing. She's put him in a cage for a while but he pees in there also. I really hope you can help. I offered to help her with tryin to work with him since she works but i'm not sure what to do either. I'd hate to think there's no hope for him but she's run out of ideas and I've never dealt with a dog that acted like that. Thank you for your time I hope you can think of something.

Answer
Hi Lilly,

That's really nice for you to find an expert on behalf of your neighbour.  I think it would serve your neighbour best to contact a professional on her own since she would be most familiar with what the details are regarding Buddy's behaviour.  She can also answer questions such as: what have you tried so far to correct the problem; what has seemed to work; what hasn't worked, and why do you think not; and more.

From your description it would seem that Buddy has two issues.  One sounds like a behavioural issue which may be quite serious (growling at people) for which I would suggest that an owner of a dog with such an issue contact a behavioural expert as soon as possible, one that uses positive methods and has had proven success with these types of issues in the past.  Your neighbour should check references on anyone she's thinking of hiring as well as look closely at their education and expereince as well as methods.

The second issue appears to be a housetraining one, again from your description.  Since I don't know anything about your neighbour's schedule or what methods she's used in order to try to resolve the problem (or even if it is a problem in her view), I'll suggest a couple of things.  First, I've answered questions here at AllExperts of a similar nature in some detail, and both you and your neighbour are certainly welcome to look at those for some assistance regarding housetraining.

If your neighbour is located in any of my service areas, including the Delray Beach area in Florida, she's welcome to contact me about my services.

Second, if your neighbour is unable to manage and train for better housetraining habits on her own then this is an instance where again I would suggest hiring a professional with the same suggestions as mentioned above on finding a qualified one.

I apologize if this isn't as much of an answer as you'd hoped.  Understand that I'm getting a third party account and not much detail and that I've done the best I responsibly can in this format with the information that I was given. :-)
