The first sign that I often notice with mine is that they will often not want to eat about three weeks into their pregnancy... sort of a bit like morning sickness. Not all bitches will do this, however.

A veterinarian with great hands can usually palpate a bitch after 3-4 weeks to determine pregnancy, and that is about the same time that an ultrasound can be done. X-rays can be done after 50 days.

The most reliable sign of pregnancy is feeling a puppy moving around toward the end of the pregnancy as many bitches who are not pregnant can have false pregnancies, and most of the "I'm pregnant" symptoms can be mimicked by those bitches.
