Question
what does it mean when a dog seems to be ribbing its nose in a sort of sweeping motion. I'mpretty sure its common in all dogs. im just wondering if its been interpreted into a meaning or emotion. I als                                                                                                                              o had the same question about dogs shaking themselves. i understand when they do its when they are wet to dry themselves , but why so regularly otherwise(besides when they are wet?
- one more thing ...
what are the most common foods that should never be given to  dogs. i only know about chocolate and macadamia nuts.

Answer
Hi, I would need a better description of what your dog is doing with its nose before I can tell you if it is common or what it means.

As far as shaking, they do it for many reasons, one is of course, to get water off of them, but they also shake to get dirt & dust off of them.

No human foods should be given to dogs because a lot of it has too much fat in it for dogs.  Also, the biggest no-no of foods not to be given to dogs is bones.  They are very dangerous to dogs as they can splinter and when the dog swallos the splinter, it can puncture their intestines and kill them.  The soup bones can get lodged in the throat real easily, and I have even seen the round bones that are hollow in the middle get stuck around the canine teeth and have to be sawed off, so as a general rule, I wouldn't give any bones to dogs.

Hope this helps,

Dawn
