Question
My dog has discovered that she likes tea (just regular Lipton iced tea.)  Is it safe for me to let her drink it?  I like my tea with a little bit of sugar, but would give her the unsweetened version, if it is safe to do so.

Any advice?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Christina,

Thanks for writing to me about your tea drinking pooch!

My guess would be that green tea would be healthier for your dog (and you) than lipton tea.  Sugar in any form is not advisable.  Cancer loves sugar.  Cancer thrives on sugar.  Sugar effects insullin which when unbalanced can cause diabetes.  Sugar is also linked to inflamation which is linked to cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

If by the "unsweetened" version you mean the inclusion of aspartame (nutra sweet)this is a 'no-no.'  Aspartame is linked to a variety of horrid health conditions (do a search on google).

If you do give your dog green tea, don't over do it as the caffine wouldn't be recommended for her.

The conclusion is that pure filtered water is what nature intended for your dog to drink.
