Skin Irritation on neck of Boxer

Question
I have a traditionally marked Boxer (brindle w/white muzzle, white between his eyes, white front of neck and chest).  He is 16 months old.  About 2 weeks ago, he has some red irritation on the white part of the front of his neck.  It is where his collar hits him.  The collar is by no means too tight.  I have also noticed that he has been licking his paws more than normal.  His hair is also thinning around the back of his ears.  This has all happened in the last two weeks.  Any suggestions on what to do about this?

Answer

Hi Lisa,

Between the sore on your dog's neck, the paw licking, and thinning of hair, your dog has some significant symptoms.

You need to have your dog examined by a veterinarian. Your dog might be having a thyroid problem, allergy, or parasite infestation. It's impossible to guess at what the problem might be. Treatment will vary depending on what the vet's diagnosis is.

Best of luck,
Patti
