My female Jack Russel terrior is in 2nd week of heat and is bleeding alot, is this normal or should I see a vet

Hi Mike,

The actual "breeding time" is only a matter of 2 or 3 days in the 3 week period that the heat cycle lasts. The flow may be fairly heavy the first few days and usually decreases in amount over the next week.

Some dogs do experience heavy bleeding, just as some human women do, but if it seems excessive, or it's been going on for more than 4 days, you should contact your vet.
