Terrier coat/ baldness

Question
We have recently acquired a crossbred terrier (half jack russell) pup from a reputable dog rescue. She is fully vaccinated and wormed. Very happy, bright, energetic but losing hair around eyes, muzzle, forehead and under her legs and on her stomach. Slightly itchy but not intensively so. Has been treated with Advocate by vet which should have eliminated either type of mange, also fleas, lice and ticks. However baldness is increasing. Could it be an allergy? She seems young to have become sensitised to anything - only 15 weeks old? If so, what do you think could be causing this and how should we treat it? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Sharon,,,
Boy it sure sounds like mange.. especially with the baldness around the eyes...You might want to get a scraping anyway...BUT  terriers need a very high fat diet and I would get some Omega 3 fatty acids and add it to her food... A capsule from walmart (for humans) is just fine....Most dog foods are lower in fat than what a terrier needs....I raise terriers  and I feed chopped beef (the greasiest can find) along with their dog food.....I put the size of about half a Swedish meatball, plus the juice it was made in, per 20 lbs of dog.  I cook this in a crock pot overnight on low..

I have raised westies, fox terriers, schnauzers and NEVER HAD A SKIN PROBLEM OR ALLERGY.
I have had dogs come to me with fiery red skin and NO hair, (the vet had them on steroids)  One week of omega 3 tablets and they were growing hair and off medications.

I would still get a scraping of skin  though  and one last thing....

It could also be a mineral deficiency....I would get Petabs with minerals.  If this is not the problem, it will still be beneficial, however it takes 3-4 months of taking them to see any kind of difference,,,
