Question
I have a 6 year old that is currently in heat.  she is nearing the end of her heat cycle and is not really showing a bloody discharge but mostly clear/pink.  Its been three weeks and I know it's almost over.  My question is about her behavior.  up until this year she has always had "typical" heat behavior. (meaning behavior that I've come to expect  from all females).  this time she's driving me crazy.  We have a large breed male outside and she's an indoor dog.  she does potty out side so she always goes out under close supervision. We normally have to restrain the male so she will do her business the fastest and then she goes back inside.  I am wondering why she's acting so much worse this time and will her behavior continue to get worse the older she gets.  she's never been bread and I'm thinking of just having her fixed.  It's not so much that she's acting abnormally but that the crying and begging, humping and just all round acting crazy seems to be more amplified than her previous heat cycles.  If you think that it's just gonna continue to get worse over time then I'm just going to get her fixed.  My husband and I cant stand much more of this. lol. I haven't had her fixed yet because I was holding out hoping to find a suitable mate for her but we haven't had any luck with that thus far. any input you could give me as to how much longer she will look to mate this cycle will help.  thanks for your time. and I'm sorry I cant really give you any examples of her changed behavior other than constant whimpering.  It's just a personality change I notice from being home with her all the time.  She just looks at me like there's something wrong (with her) all the time.  When I sit on the couch, instead of coming up and lying down next to me she gets right up next to me and sits up in the begging position, puts both front feet on my shoulder  and cries.  just things like that. Demanding my full attention all the time. and I mean that literally. Thanks for your help.

Answer
The sexual drive can be stronger as she gets older.. A more important fact is she is 6 and to start breeding at that age can cause problems.  You could be looking at an expensive c-section because her bones are not as flexible at that age.. So I would suggest you spay her...You have no idea how peaceful things get at that time..lol... I've been there.
