scar tissue

Question
I know there are mixed reviews for some with invisible fences, but we recently moved into a neighborhood that does not allow fences for your yard.  It is a very dog friendly sub-division, and everyone has invisible fences.  We have two bloodhound-weimeriner sisters who are 2 1/2 yrs old.  Recently, one of them was taken to the vet because she had a Huge tumor located in the folds of her neck.  When removed, the vet noticed 2 other smaller ones, and one of them grown around the jugular.  He had the initial tumor biopsies, and it came back as scar-tissue.

So my question is:  Roxy, is more stubborn than the other dog, and therefore has the stubborn collar with a higher voltage.  They both are really good with staying in the yard, though Roxy at times will stick her neck in the shock zone and then freeze there until you can get her attention.  Is is possibly from the repeated shocks, that this is what caused the scar tissue in the neck area?  The vet said this is typical of a deep injury, or foriegn  body.

Answer
Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your question.

An injury or a repetitive motion such as this may cause a muscle to tighten up. When the muscle tightens up, swelling occurs which restricts the oxygen supply to the muscles and connective tissues. Scar tissue or adhesions can form from this lack of oxygen.

Swelling, redness, heat and pain may also occur because of the repeated shocks.

After a surgery the body has the natural ability to heal itself. As a result of the incision to the skin the body will produce connective tissues, adhesions (scar tissue) and collagen to replace damaged material. This scar tissue serves the purpose of replacing the damaged cells at the point of incision or injury. Lacking pigmentation and hair skin scar tissue is much different than scar tissue found in the fascial layers of the body. Deep scar tissue in the fascial layers of the body develops adhesions or spider like web threads to help the body heal and recover.

Hope this helps and thanks for your question,

Ben.
