Question
I have a 7 yr old Golden that I rescued almost 3 yrs ago.  Sweet dog well behaved and we love her a lot.  Three months ago she started peeing and pooping in our kitchen where we keep her when not at home.  Whether we are home or not she will pee and poop in the back corner of the kitchen.  We scold her and  put her outside.  She's gotten so bad that now we keep her outside all day long (I don't like that and neither does she)  Recently my daughter and family (animals too) moved back home, but she was displaying this behavior at least a month or two before they moved back in.  We have  a second Golden who has no problems at all and they love to play together.  I have taken her to the vet and had her checked out to make sure there were no medical problems and all tests came out clear.  What can we do to help her?????

Answer
Joanne-

Dogs are toiletry animals, and like to use the bathroom in the same designated spot, whether that is one spot in the house, or one spot in the yard, or the whole yard. If she develops the habit of pooping in one spot in the kitchen, you need to give her a refresher course that that is not allowed!

My first suggestion would be to put water dishes and toys in that corner. She will not pollute a water or food source, and then you can redirect her outside to go to the bathroom, reminding her that the *entire* house is off limit! :)

Good luck!
