Question
Hi, I have a golden retriever puppy that I got at 6 weeks, he received his 1st shots 5 weeks old, is this normal? He will be 12 weeks this Friday & he is going for his 3rd round, he received his 2nd shots 3 weeks ago, is he going to be ok? Do I need to start over, please advice!

Answer
All I can say is, "UFF-DA!"

That first shot shouldn't be given until 8-9 weeks of age, and each subsequent inoculation should be done four weeks later. I would postpone this next vaccination for one more week. Hopefully he will be okay. That first shot at five weeks was useless as he should have still had some immunity from his dam.

Here is some good advice on vaccine timing: http://www.tiarapoodles.com/vaccination.htm

Also, do not give yearly vaccinations, and do not do rabies at the same time as the regular vaccinations.
