Question
QUESTION: My family has a teacup poodle. He is about seven now and is displaying some bad behavior. I read a little on dominant dog behaviors but not a lot. Here are examples that we see in him:

he will jump on furniture/people and will not get down when he is told to. if we try and push him off he will resist

when we leave to go somewhere he will yap non-stop and if it is for a long period he will pee on the carpet or chew on things purposely.

bites and pulls on his leash when he is hooked up to it

demands table food all the time.

Any advice

ANSWER: Hello Carly;
A dog only has behavior patterns to what you let it do!
So, if you are not happy with your dog's behavior, then you are the one who can change it!
If the dog has freedom it will take it, just like a child...so, you must curb its perimeters to give it some idea what is expected of him.
You will have to use the Crate training system all over.
This way the dog can have a "Time out" when needed.

You will have to give the dog a command as well to tell him what you want out of him, "No" is no information!
So, use short words, like "Quiet" for the barking problem, and then if he does not understand, put him in the crate.
Praise is the best system to teach your dog! If the dog stops, then immediately praise him. The pee situation, is the same...Crate training,
Pick him up and take him after a session in the crate tell him to "go potty"...if he doesn't do it, then crate him till he has another 40 minutes...etc.
Same thing about furniture. You will need to put him down, not push him, take a proactive stance where you want him...not where you don't want him...Tell him "Off"! This command is one used in jumping up on a leg as well.

The biting at the leash, is an attention getter. Use this time to work and go to a "Obedience" group for more specifics on walking and training on the leash.
Petsmart, or a Park class is the best, with others to help set the pace!
Dogs, are only going to be good when taught to be so..
So, you have some work to do, and best of luck with your program...this will be ongoing!
Let me know how you do.
Regards,
Melissa

QUESTION: I forgot to explain when  I asked that my mom and sister do not like me putting the dog in the crate and when i do demand that i take him out. Any other ideas

Answer
Explain to them it is a necessary training aid in order for the dog to not behave "Out of Control"!!
You will need to use the Crate for all of her training.
You can also go to the class, and they will help a whole bunch with behavior modification, and obedience!

Melissa
