Cranial Subluxation

Question
My dog was limping for several days with no sign of recovery so I took her to the vet and was told she has cranial subluxation (her knee pops in and out of joint). I have heard of this happening with dogs hips but never a knee. I was told to keep her in a kennel for 24/7 except to eat and potty. She is hoping it will tighten back up and correct itself. My question is...is there another way to treat this? Should I see a orthopedic specialist? Is this very serious? "Bella" is only 16 weeks old and I don't want her to have surgery, but I don't want a lifetime issue with her leg either? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Hi Wendy. I would definitely recommend you to go see an orthopedic specialist. I work with one & you would be amazed at the things they can do. I would hate to run the "risk" of the problem not correcting itself, especially since Bella's so young. This is a plausible issue & the kenneling is a correct way to approach it, but there's a good possibility that a specialist may have a better solution. You're a great Mom for being so concerned. Let me know!
