Question
we have friends that own a britany spaniel. The dog lives outside all year round except maybe when temp. reach subzero
(we live in MN) It has a nice warm dog house. His owners work during the day. They just have the one dog so it is alone the majority of the time. Now my husband wants to get a new puppy. He wants it to live outside. I think that is a form of neglect. I think that a dog needs to be part of the family and not isolated in the yard. What do you think?

Answer
Well it depends on what type of dog you want-allot of hunting dogs, like beagles or labs, and northern breeds such as huskies, malamutes, akitas or chows do fine outside for most of the time

But toy/small breeds such as poodles, shi tzus,Lasha apsos and sight hounds like whippets or greyhounds do not do well outside at all

and some dogs bark/howl too much

It really depends on what type of dog you are looking for, many dogs do just fine outside, while others do not
