Greyhound adoption and small dogs &cat

Question
One more question.  My children brought me a greyhound puppy.  In the meantime I had committed to another litter.  Do you think two greyhound puppies would be too much.  Also I have a bit of a problem with one of my Chihuahuas.  She is being quite nasty to the greyhound pup.  Any suggestions.

-----Question-----
I just have one more question.  I notice that you said that you currently have four dogs.  Are all of these dogs yours, or are some of them foster dogs?  I am in the position now of possibly getting two greyhounds now.  I truly love dogs and do not feel that this would be impossible for me (this would mean that I would have four dogs) but I believe that my older children think that I am insane.  What are your feelings on multiple animals?
-----Answer-----
Hi Karen;
Once the oldest son, the third oldest of my four children, remarked to me, " You don't NEED four dogs".
To which I answered. "I raised four children, and dogs are mUCH easier to raise trhan children". LOL
All four of the dogs we have now are rescue dogs I took to foster, and just couldn't part with. So they are mine.
One year, I went to my sister's, because she had a stroke, and died Christmas Eve.
BAD CHRISTMAS!!!
But anyway, I had to bring her two cats home with me. These cats had never been outside, and didn't know from dogs, but nobody else could take them .
My neice had taken in a stray that was pregnant, and after she had her litter they searched all over for those puppies.
She would come to the house to be fed, but she wouldn't let them find her puppies.
My neice said she knew they were 6 or 7 eeks old, and she didn't know how on earth she was going to find hiomes for all of them in that little bitty town.
She intended to have the mother spayed and keep her.
I said, my Humane Society chapter and the rescue groups could find good homes for them, and the day I was leaving, that dog brought her puppies out to me, and when I got them in my car, put her chin in my hand, while I told her I was going to see her babies had good hoimes, and then looked at the car, where her puppies were, looked back at me, and took out across the field.
My niece said, "She brought them to you Aunt Charlotte".
Yes, I think she did.
So, I came home with 6 puppies and two cats.
My four dogs acted like mommy had brought them the greatest Christmas gift on earth. LOL
We did find homes for them, and my husband liked one of the cats, so we kept her, until she ran away.
There was no sign of her, and the pound hadn't picked up a run over cat like her. I think one of my neighbors put her in her house and still has her.
This woman is cat crazy, and although I don't visit with her, I know that cat is well cared for.
The way she answered when asked if she had seen the cat, makes us think she has her.
She acted like she was caught in a poker game with 5 aces in her hand.LOL
She didn't say she hand't SEEN the cat, she just hemmed and hawed and suggested other neighbors we couyld ask. LOL
For awhile there, we had 10 dogs and 2 cats.
It wasn't much of a problem.
My dogs welcome the rescues I bring here, and they actually help me with housebreakig and training them, and making the dogs feel easy.
Do you by any chance live in the south?
If so, tell your children that older Southern ladies are SUPPOSED  to be a little tetched.
That's MY excuse.LOL

Answer
Hi Karen;
Well, two pups is not too much for me, but you know better how much time you have to tend to them.
Can you enlist the kids?
If you could handle 10 dogs and 2 cats, I don't think 2 little puppies will be too much for you.
As for HER!!!
First, talk to her in not such a stern voice, more of a shame on you, poor little puppy, etc.
Then if she keeps it up,,,,,
When she is nasty to the puppy, grab her up and scold her good. Look her in the eyes while you are chewing her out, and put her in time-out.
I use the hall bathroom, because it is smallest.
They are closed up in there after a chewing, with no toys, no attention for about a half hour, then talked to like you would a child that you have taken out of punishment.
"You have to be a sweet girl to the babies. Mommy wants you to be nice? etc.
Make her know the puppy isn't taking her place, but that YOU are the boss there, not her.
A few times in time-out makes all the ones I have used it on, behave like little dears.
They HATE time-out!
Well, LOL, I just read my other answer to you.
Guess I repeated myself here.LOL
Yes, I do live in the south.
I live in Irving Texas, where that $&%# looking Cowboy Stadium is.
I am NOT a football fan, and I resent how our taxes have gone up steadily since we have been having to pay so many more taxes, because of the rediculous deal our city fathers made with the Cowboys.
Having that stadium here for the last 30 years has ruined our nice little town.
