Questioni have a rat terrier that will be 1 next month.
my boyfriend and i are going to be moving into a new condo in December/January.
he wants another dog. a miniature pinscher.
i think it would be better to move, get missy (the rat terrier) acquainted to the new place, and then get a dog.
is there any benefit to bringing the new puppy in now and moving them together, so that they have a 'friend' to help deal w/ the move?
my first concern is of course, my missy girl. i want to make this all as easy for her as possible. i just dont know which is the worse of 2 evils or which one we should have her deal with first.
AnswerAt a year, she is still fairly young and will cope with change better than an older dog. I vote to wait until she is settled in to add the second dog. And there is much less likely for problems is the second one if a male.
Another year old dog rather than a puppy would be better. apartments often do not have the quick exit puppies need at first. Puppies are very time consuming and hard to fit into busy lifestyles. Try a rescue. These are dogs that lost their home, but were taken into a foster home to be retrained as necessary and placed in the right home for them. You may
find a rescue near you starting at
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm The rescues charge a fee to help cover their expenses, but is much less than the price of a puppy plus all its medical expenses the first year. They have many nice purebreds if that is what he wants.
