Eye medicine for a dog!

19 12:00:10

Question
My dog was diagnosed with allergies today. She was given an antihistamine and eye medicine. The eye medicine is not drops, but an ointment. Please give me advice on how to get this in her eye. She fights all attempts... she is a 75 pound lab and even with 2 of us, it is difficult. I know it will make her feel better! Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer
Hi Misty,
sorry I didn't get back sooner, but there was a problem on ALL EXPERTS and I couldn't sign on.

The best way I have found is to put the medicine on my finger, in a long strip, and while I am petting her with one hand, I just swipe my finger right over her eye.  Even though they like to have you put it on the iris, I have found that as long as you get it on the seam of the eye it goes in and does the job.  Come from behind and don't try and keep her eye open it frightens them.
