Question
hello, my dog maxx is 3 years old, he is a male Maltese. I have started to train him into sitting and giving the paw today. I purchased natural choice Nutro system (training bits). But they do not mention how many of this little treats i can give Maxx. Also, i have read on the Internet people write about this company's food recall as well as a high rating has not been given. Please any information as well as help is welcomed.

Thank you

Answer
Hi Pamela,

Nutro system training bits are meant to be used as a treat when your dog responds to a command during training sessions. You don't need to give your dog a whole tidbit, as half of one is just as tasty, and your dog won't feel short changed, he only know it tastes good!

I guess they don't list a serving size, because it's up to you to determine how long and how often you have a training session. When using treats to teach commands, gradually replace food with praise as your dog learns. Reinforce occasionally with a bit of favorite snack, but don't depend on the treat to get obedience.
Your dog appreciates your love as much as any edible treat.

The point of using a training treat is to make the moment when he responds to a command as memorable as possible. It doesn't have to be an expensive treat. A tiny piece of cheese, or hot dog is just as memorable to your dog, and whatever you buy and don't use on your dog, you can use yourself!

Don't over-do the training treats, or your dog will get fat.

I don't know what sites you've been reading regarding Nuto dog foods, but it is a very good quality food. It's considered to be a super premium dog food.
Many, many pet foods were involved in last year's pet food recalls, and that was only for canned food, not dry. If you are concerned, feed your dog dry dog food.

Nutro ordered the discontinuation of all sales of the involved products, removal of these products from retail stores, and the isolation of product in warehouses and distribution centers in May of 2007. The Nutro foods you can buy now are all safe.
