are pig ears (treats) safe?

Question
hello,  my mother-in-law bought a package of Ol Roys smoked Pig Ears for the dogs. (8 year old chihuaha, 10 year old jack russel and a 3 month old siberian husky)  I have heard that these things are not good to give the dogs.  Is this true or not??

Answer
HI Tim,

I answered this question last night, but for some reason I still show it "unanswered", so if this is a duplicate please just delete.

I think pig ears are OK ever now and then, but NOT all the time.  Dogs eat these and too many can cause upset stomach.  I think at one time, there were some pig ears out there that were causing medical problems. Seems like they were spoiled or something to that effect if I remember correctly.  That is probably what you heard about them being "bad".  I tend to NOT give them , but it's because I have small dogs and it seems like they chew them down and then kinda choke on them.

Use your best judgement.  My advice would be to use ever now and then, NOT every day.

God Bless,
Becky
